Changing Urban Contexts
The summer-school will be held in Urbino from July 3rd to July 21st, 2006. It is residential and involves 4 hours class activity per day for three weeks. Each week will focus on different aspects of Changing Urban Contexts. Within December 20th, 2006 selected participants have to submit a final paper to one of the scholars involved in the training programme (participants to both Eurex and to the summer-school will have to submit only one paper).
Costs and grants
The cost for participating in the Summer-school is 500 €, which covers also accommodation costs at the University campus. Travel costs and meals will be at participant’s expenses. Access to the University facilities (canteen) will be made available at subsidised costs.
The selection committee will distribute 10 full grants covering the participation to the Summer-school (including a lump sum to cover at least partly travel costs) to candidates. For them, some additional eligibility criteria are in force: a) being a member of the European Union (or associated states, please inquiry); b) being below the age of 35 (please inquiry for extensions); c) being a graduate student or entitled to enter a PhD programme; d) Present a work programme coherent with the issues of both Eurex and the summer-school. This proposal should be comparative (e.g. two cities in the same country, different cities in different countries) and its lenght should be of a minimum of 1200 words up to a maximum of 2500; e) participation of the candidate in the Eurex Seminar with be regarded as a valuable criteria for the selection.
Application for full grants have to be submitted within April 15th, 2006. Download the application form. Other candidates may apply only to the summer-school within April 30th, 2006.
If you are an RTN UrbEUROPE fellow, the Summer-school programme is an integral part of your training within the network and participation costs will be covered through your fellowship at your host institution. For you no admission fee is required.
Admission requirements
§ Late undergraduates (just before their diploma) and early Ph.Ds’ (in their first/second year) in social or political sciences, humanities, liberal arts or economics, geography, urban planning, etc. § outstanding academic results and/or rich professional experience; § evidence of a good working knowledge of English (e.g. TOEFL score of at least 550 points or to a IELTS score of at least 6.5); § Strong motivation and personal or professional interest to participate in the Summer School.
Only graduate students will be eligible for full grants (see above). A max of 20 candidates will be admitted.
Credits
Final papers will be evaluated by the editorial board of the UrbEUROPE working papers (WP). Outstanding contributions will be published within the Eurex or the RTN-WP series. All participants will receive a diploma acknowledging their participation.
